The closed open stroke describe the path of the putter head. There are two basic strokes: "straight back and straight through" or "open closed". Straight back and through is self explanatory. The open closed requires explanation. When you start the back stroke you open the putter like a door and when you putt through the ball you close the door. Putters are designed to promote these strokes. Center shafted, mallet style and face balanced putters for the straight back and through stroke and the anser style, non-faced balanced and non-center shafted putters for the open closed. Grips promote these strokes and should be fitted to the style of putter and stroke.
